The Lockerbie bomber. it's now a year since his release from jail on compassionate grounds by the Scottish Government. He was released as he was supposed to die after three months. over here in Scotland they are getting slated for it and imo rightly so. However there is a theory that he was due to appeal the decision and win it (due to new evidence) and a deal was struck to set him free so as no new evidence could come to light. something stinks www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/aug/20/abdelbaset-al-megrahi-good-faith-alex-salmond-lockerbiewhat is the American point of view?

this americans point of view is...
perhaps if someone would have shot and killed him when he was arrested,... alot of time, money, heartache, and ink could have been saved.
what is America's point of view? well I am not a mind reader but my guess is they dont give a shit anymore, if ever at. all. however let me think that over and comment again later. I will personally ask a few americans for ya. I think I know where there is still a few of them left. then you and I both will know what they think.
muc
good topic.

well i went to the local "grill" where all the farmers go for lunch and breakfest. This place serves biscuits and gravey, and, gravey and biscuits. I went 2 days in a row and asked the locals about this. I did not know alot about this myself but between research and talking with "Americans", I got quite a fucking lesson. Please note that the people i spoke with are southern rednecks. Mostly conseratives for sure.
This Megrahi guy was the only Libyan convicted of murder in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing over Scotland..Many Americans died on Pan Am. flight 103...It seems that our friends at British petroleum now want to drill for oil in the waters off of Libya..its believed by many that to get these drills a drilling... the Brits cut a deal with Libya that granted early release to this convicted murderer...Many of the families of those who were murdered on this flight are angry at this..In my mind, most people today in the USA don,t even remember this 1988 incident,in light of the fact that so much horror and violence has occurred since then..Two major wars in the gulf, Katrina,,9-11,....this is just an insignificant foot note in the history of our violent world.....Thats my take

Cobh Jr. not strictly true, as BP would have been lobbying UK government as they deal with Foreign affairs. Al-Megrahi was set free by Scottish Government who state they were not contacted by BP. As there was a Labour government for UK and Scottish nationalists in charge for Scotland there was obviously a conflict of interest. something stinks.

I am not clear about the difference between scotland and U.K I thought Scotland is part of the United Kingdom of England,Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales...They may have some local autonomy and a different accent and a Scottish Pound but they are subjects of Queen Elizabeth 2....There has been a secessionist movement going on but it looks like they will remain part of the U.K.. My "guess" was that a lot of the North Sea oil money drilled off of Scotland more or less goes to the English and the Scotts would then resent this..There have been horrific wars fought between England and Scotland and the English finally defeated them..Foreign policy of the UK is I believe decided by the Parliament in London.... Do I have this right ?
please do not be offended by anything that I have said above. As I do not know you my intention is not to insult you or your people in any way. I just dont get it. Is it like state laws here in the U.S. what goes on in the ocean of the coast of each state here is somewhat controled by that state but not entirley.

Scotland has devolved powers such as Education, Health (the NHS in Scotland), Agriculture and Justice.Al-Megrahi falls under Justice remit (laughable I know) Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security are reserved matters for Westminster (UK Government). all income from taxation, oil etc goes to UK government who then allocate a budget every year to Scotland to deal with devolved powers as Scotland sees fit. This way has seen Scotland gain more money per head of population over the other three countries. Scotland was an Independent nation until 1707 with the Act of Union joined England,Wales and Ireland to form the United Kingdom . after Darien debacle in 1700 www.historic-uk.com/HistoryUK/Scotland-History/DarienScheme.htm which bankrupt the country Scotland had no option but to join with England. Last battle between Scotland and England was 1746 battle of Culloden Moor, with Bonnie Prince Charlie (Jacobian) against The Government forces (Hanoverian). My town Glasgow was actually a Hanoverian City due to the money it was making with tobacco imports from your neck of the woods the Carolinas and Virginia, and did not side with Bonnie Prince Charlie as it would lose too much money and trade. Not all Scots sided with him. no way am i offended my friend. hope you enjoyed your history lesson

Mel Gibson made Scotland free....I seen it with my own eyes in Braveheart! Seriously, I have no real sympathy for anyone's cause once they bring violence to innocents intentionally. This guy should have been attached to the same amount of explosives he used for his bombing and sent up in a drone plane for retribution. I have no idea why anyone would honor his wishes of being allowed to smell freedom in his "dying" days. Who really gives a shit whether or not he's allowed to die in peace. -SOB

Would you believe that the family of Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi is planning to sue the Scottish Government (after he dies) for false imprisonment. This was annouced by Gaddaffi so i don't know if 100% true, however it should be the other way around imo, families of deceased should sue Libya
