You haven't been anyplace that others recited it since then? A Nascar race or sporting event?

thats is a really good point. Ill bet i have been somewhere like a race or maybe a childs sports event where they said it. But i truly do not remember it. therefore i voted for 2 and also for 8. I included 8 because if it was recited before the green flag of a NASCAR race im certain I would have objected on the grounds that it delayed the start of the race by 1 minute. and it would be considered rude to guzzle beer during that time.

Get rid of all the politically correct bullshit, and shoot a camel jocky. Arabs are slowly taking over this world and we need to stand up for what is ours.....Mike

Get rid of all the politically correct bullshit, and shoot a camel jocky. Arabs are slowly taking over this world and we need to stand up for what is ours.....Mike I believe in God and recite the pledge proudly. And sure, this country was founded with - and is currently maintained by - Guns and Guts. Leave no doubt about that. My father was a WWII vet, and my own son is an active-duty veteran of two Middle East tours. BTW, he too had similar thoughts about "all them camel jockeys," until he worked with multitudes of them and learned, that just like Americans, they’re not all created equally. The majority possess no ill-will toward America. They wish they could have alcohol, strippers and porn stars like us. He fought the real enemy over there. The religious extremists, the Taliban and Al-qaeda, who hate us and our way of life. So let's be clear on one thing. Religious extremists right here in the good ‘ol USA have re-written American history with a Christian bias. They have systematically misinformed their followers, and in the case of 700 Club, Swaggart, Falwell, Parsley, etc - their viewers, about the real attitudes of the Founding Fathers. This seems to have been done in order to merchandise a peculiar vision of an America under the thumb of religious regulators. The revolutionaries who got this country started were not, as Pat Robertson would have us believe, a bunch of religious nuts, whimpering for guidance from The Unseen Hand. They had a First Amendment premonition about pimp-weasels like him. Here's what they had to say, the quotes are as listed in the book Salvation for Sale by Gerard Thomas Straub. Take it away boys: "The United States is in no sense founded upon the Christian doctrine." - GEORGE WASHINGTON "It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." - THOMAS JEFFERSON "I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, nor by any church that I know of. My mind is my own church." - THOMAS PAINE "I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature." - THOMAS JEFFERSON "The bible is not my book, and Christianity is not my religion. I could never give assent to the long, complicated statements of Christian dogma." - ABRAHAM LINCOLN ;D

I am heading out to vote in a few minutes. I usually hang out there and chat with people for a while. (50 feet away from the front door of course and without a billy club) I am going to bring this up over there with the very conservative local rednecks and farmers whom I live with here in the North Carolina country side. I have been thinking about this topic more seriously in the last 2 days. and since reading mike @ vinnie's very different posts Im glad to hear that Godz fans and band members do have an opinion about these types of matters. I was concerned there for a while, hence my condesending reply.

I am a Veteran, also a member of Indiana A.B.A.T.E. (motorcycle organization). We pledge our allegiance to the flag, not politicians. The flag represents US, WE THE PEOPLE. The flag also gives every citizen the RIGHT to protest, complain or what ever. There are many countries around the world where you cannot do this, by penalty of imprisonment or death.
I think we take our freedoms for granted and as a result we are losing them everyday. I am hopeful that this election today will give Americans the oportunity to gain some freedoms back.
So I pledge my allegiance proudly.

I didn't see an option close enough so I held my vote. I neither recite it nor do I object to others who do. For me it's no longer an issue either way. That said, this particular country had it's chance to use me for whatever it wanted for over 20 years while it it's service. I no longer pledge allegiance to it or any other. I done pledged enough

everyone I have spoken with today has a very strong feeling about reciting that pledge loud and proud. very similar to MHBOB's feelings.
me, it would take more words than vinnie to express myself fully on this matter. and i dont want to fall into that trap again.

Youre right Vinnie, I should not have made so general a statement. The Extreamest are the problem there. I do know quite a few Arabs that are good people. The US may not have been founded on Christian doctrine, But many of the founding fathers were Christian of one sort or another. Its mainly the Catholic church, AKA the old Roman empire, that I believe gives a bad name to Christianity.

If I read my history right, the founding fathers were not overly religious. God has his place, but not in government. I grew up Catholic, but sure don't condone any religion now. The Roman Catholic Church was so corrupt, it caused the Protestant Reformation. So many different versions of Christianity, but none are followers of what Jesus taught. After all, he was Jewish. And his followers were Jewish. The only difference between Jews and early Christians, was the Jesus people believed he was the Mesiah. That's it. What does this have to do with the topic? I have now idea?
